Vegetable Research and Development Station Buzau – Research, innovation, and passion for Romanian vegetable cultivation!

Chinese delegation visits VRDS Buzau: exchange of experience in agricultural and horticultural research

🌱 VRDS Buzau welcomed a delegation of specialists from the People’s Republic of China, as part of a programme organised by the Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences “Gheorghe Ionescu-Sisesti”, dedicated to developing Romanian–Chinese cooperation in agricultural and horticultural research.

The delegation, led by Prof. Cheng Ruifeng, was made up of researchers and specialists from the Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development in Agriculture (IEDA), the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) and the Institute of Vegetables and Flowers of CAAS, as well as from the companies Zhongwen Agriculture (Shandong) Group Co. Ltd. and Zhejiang Kangsheng Co., Ltd. The delegation comprised Prof. Cheng Ruifeng, Tong Yuxin, He Chaoxing, Li Yutang, Tong Zexian and Qi Yanxia.

The guests were welcomed by Director Elena Barcanu-Tudor and the VRDS Buzau team.

During the visit, the station’s main research areas were presented, together with the results achieved in plant breeding, genetic resource conservation and seed production, as well as the collections and experimental plots in the field and in protected growing areas.

A highlight of the visit was a tasting of tomato varieties developed at VRDS Buzau, which gave the guests the opportunity to discover the diversity and flavour qualities of Romanian genetic material.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity to exchange experience and strengthen international cooperation in horticultural research.
