🌱 It all started with a few luffa seeds…
Sometimes we don’t know where an idea can lead when we first plant it.
The story began a year ago, when a few pupils from the „Jacques M. Elias” Technological High School in Bacău county visited us at the INDAGRA fair. There they found out that our researchers at VRDS Buzau had managed to acclimatise luffa to growing conditions in Romania.
Curious, they took a few seeds and sowed them. They followed the plants, researched the ways they could be used and, little by little, their idea took shape: a business plan built around this little-known plant.
In the 2025–2026 school year, the PureLoofa team entered GEN-E, the international business plan competition organised by Junior Achievement Romania. They reached the national final, among the 17 qualified teams, and won the „RE-POWER YOUR FUTURE” award. 🏆
And the part that made us happiest is that the award came with sponsorship for developing their entrepreneurial and specialist skills, and they chose to come back to where their inspiration started: VRDS Buzau.
A few days ago we welcomed them again, this time in our experimental field. We talked about plants, research, varieties and, of course, about luffa – the plant at the heart of their project. The visit ended with a tasting of our varieties.
For us, this meeting was a joy and a confirmation that research can inspire the next generation.
A plant can become an idea.
An idea can become a project.
And a project can become the start of a journey.
We thank the pupils and their teacher for including us in their story and for reminding us how wonderful it is to see a simple seed give rise to such big ideas.
