
Description
- A biennial herbaceous plant; in the first year the leaves are arranged in a rosette, while in the second year the plant produces flowering stems.
- The plant is grown in the open field and can reach a height of 90–120 cm.
- The fruit is a schizocarp, elongated-oval in shape and greyish with a waxy bloom.
- The flavour is slightly bitter and pungent, with a strongly aromatic scent.
- The quantity of seed required to establish one hectare of crop is 3.5–4 kg.
- The seed has a storage life of 5–8 years, during which it retains its properties very well, particularly its characteristic aroma.
