- Implementation period: 2023-2027
Project objectives
- Securing the required seed of higher biological categories (PB, B) from established cultivars, within their own limits of variability (ensuring identity, uniformity and stability), with a view to producing seed of the "Certified" category; assessing yield levels and seed quality parameters, while ensuring optimal nutrition of the plants, appropriate planting distances and an appropriate number of fruits per plant, in order to underpin solutions for increasing seed quality and improving the technology used to produce it.
Results
- Carrying out maintenance breeding at regular intervals on the 110 varieties/hybrids created by the Station and entered in the Official Catalogue of Crop Plants of Romania;
- Obtaining seed of higher biological categories (CSD, pre-basic, basic) from the varieties/hybrids created by the Station;
- Obtaining significant quantities of certified seed and placing it on the relevant Romanian market;
- Promoting into cultivation the cultivars developed at the Vegetable Research and Development Station Buzau;
- Consultancy in the field and dissemination of the scientific information embodied in the new varieties, through participation in national and international symposia, the publication of scientific articles and popular-science articles, the ongoing updating of the Vegetable Research and Development Station Buzau Catalogue, the production of leaflets and presentation materials, and various forms of training;
- Technology transfer (biological material, cultivation technologies, demonstration plots) to farmers and smallholders interested in the new cultivars developed.
