Description
- Ruben spinach is a perennial climber in its area of origin; in Romania, however, it behaves as an annual plant with indeterminate growth.
- It can be grown under protected cultivation and in the open field, in a trellised system, although it should be noted that it does not tolerate low temperatures.
- The fleshy, succulent leaves of Malabar spinach are perfect for a wide range of culinary preparations and are used in much the same way as ordinary spinach. They can be eaten raw in salads or cooked in soups, stews and other dishes, thanks to their slightly crisp texture and fresh flavour.
- Malabar spinach is rich in antioxidants, vitamins A and C, iron and calcium.
- The plant can also serve an ornamental purpose on pergolas and in floral arrangements.
