Description
- The Felix snake gourd is a vigorous climbing vine that can be grown successfully both under protected cultivation and in the open field on a trellis system.
- The young fruit is an excellent source of fiber and vitamins, particularly vitamins A and C, helping to maintain healthy skin and a healthy immune system. Thanks to its low calorie content, it is ideal for balanced diets.
- The young fruit may be eaten fresh or cooked and is used in much the same way as the ordinary courgette. In many cultures in Africa and Asia, this gourd is prized not only for its unique twisted shape but also for its culinary versatility. In Africa, the mature fruit is called 'the tomato gourd' because of its red colour and because it can be processed into juices or pastes.
- Yields range from 8-10 t/ha up to 30 t/ha and depend on the growing technology applied and on when the fruits are harvested.
