ADER 3.2.3: Development of varieties and F1 hybrids for the main vegetable species grown under protected cultivation: tomato, pepper, aubergine, cucumber and early cabbage

Project objectives

  • Development of varieties and F1 hybrids for the main vegetable species grown under protected cultivation: tomato, pepper, aubergine, cucumber and early cabbage.

Results

  • Establishment and consolidation of valuable germplasm bases for the species covered by the project;
  • Inventory and assessment of the main characteristics of all the genotypes from the germplasm base included in the study;
  • Development of valuable parental lines meeting the phenotypic characteristics required by the breeding programme;
  • Assessment of the genetic suitability of each selected genotype for hybridisation by testing general and specific combining ability;
  • Development of stabilised lines and hybrids meeting the requirements of growers and consumers;
  • Submission to ISTIS of four varieties and one hybrid for official registration and patenting.
