- Implementation period: 2015-2018
Project objectives
- Selection of the genotypes that meet the criteria of origin and uniqueness;
- Establishment of the national regeneration, multiplication and characterisation network;
- Development of multiplication and regeneration protocols;
- Establishment of characterisation descriptors;
- Regeneration, multiplication and characterisation of the biological material, in accordance with internationally established and accepted methodologies;
- Conservation of the material resulting from the multiplication or regeneration process;
- Identification of those genotypes which have proved to carry characteristics of adaptability and resistance to environmental conditions and to the action of various pathogens, and promotion of their use in specific breeding programmes or for on-farm conservation.
Expected results
- Evaluation and characterisation of 76 local tomato varieties (Solanum lycopersicum), out of a total of 84 accessions studied in the period 2016–2017 (45 in 2016 and 39 in 2017);
- Identification of the genotypes with valuable genetic potential for selection and breeding;
-
