Alba de Buzau Onion
Morphological characteristics:
A semi-late onion variety grown by direct sowing (ceaclama type), with a growing period of 145-155 days from emergence to bulb maturity.
The bulb is spherical, slightly flattened and uniform, and is very well covered by the outer scales, which are a yellowish-brown colour. The flesh is white and juicy, with a sweetish, slightly pungent taste.
Technological requirements:
It prefers fertile, well-drained sandy loam soils with a slightly acid pH. The crop is established by direct sowing in the field.
Yield and quality characteristics:
The bulbs are large and uniform, with an average weight of 170 g. The average bulb diameter is 5-6 cm. The yield potential is 50-60 t/ha where a density of 500,000-600,000 plants/ha is achieved.
The bulbs keep very well over the winter when they come from healthy crops
